Donor Spotlight: Carolyn Howes

For nearly 40 years, Carolyn Howes has been sharing her time and talents as a member of The Women's Board of Aultman Hospital. Giving back comes easily for Carolyn, who is also an active Generations member. "I get a great sense of joy knowing the money raised by our board has helped create a hospital that makes us all so very proud."

Since its inception in 1970, The Women's Board, with the help of generous donors and volunteers like Carolyn, has raised nearly 23 million dollars for Aultman Hospital. These funds have been used to support capital improvements in the pediatrics department, emergency trauma center, Aultman College, renal dialysis center, neonatal high-risk suites and many other areas. 

The Compassionate Care Center, Stark County's first inpatient hospice center, opened in 2011 thanks to the efforts of The Women's Board. In November 2017, the board completed its largest project to date; a five-year, 5 million dollar pledge to support construction of a new, free-standing cancer center for our community. 

Carolyn and her fellow board members engage in many fundraising activities throughout the year, but the annual Angel Auction remains their signature event. Carolyn has served on nearly every Auction committee and has formed wonderful friendships along the way. She adds, "It has been amazing to see how this event has evolved. Every year our members work very hard but we also have a great deal of fun together!" This year's Angel Auction, Splendors of the Serengeti, was held on May 11, 2018 at The Canton Civic Center. 

Fundraising is not the only way that Carolyn and other members of The Women's Board make a difference. "I will never forget what Dick Pryce (former Aultman CEO) told us years ago," Carolyn shared. "He reminded us that as members of The Women's Board, we were Aultman's voice in the community."
